My Oh So Not Movie Scene Birth Story
———————
Water Broke Or Pee In The Bed?
Okay, story time my lovely mommies! So let’s talk about my oh-so-not-movie scene birth story!
It all started at 5/6 am when I woke up to use the bathroom. I noticed that I was wet. I thought to myself, I know I didn’t just pee myself while I was sleeping.
I literally made it this far in my pregnancy, there’s no way!
Mind you, I was 38 weeks pregnant 🤰. Unsure, I woke up my husband. “Baby, I think my water broke.”
He got up and grab our hospital bags, my pillow, and headed out the door without telling no one until we were in the car on the way to the hospital.
Heading To the Hospital
As my husband drove, I decided to call my mom to tell her we were on the way to the hospital and I believe my water broke. Of course, since my mind finally caught up with my body, I was having a few contractions but I downplayed them and thought they could be Braxton Hicks contractions since this wasn’t our first trip to the hospital while I was pregnant.
I’m In Labor! – Hospital Arrival
As we got there, we took the normal entrance. And the line to sign in was so long. It finally hit me, to start playing the role of a pregnant woman who’s in labor. I grab my belly, and started screaming “I’m in labor”!
They put me in the hospital chair and escorted me and my husband to labor and delivery.
When we got up there, they took me to triage where they check if they were able to feel my baby. And the nurse said, “Oh yeah I feel hair.”
In my mind, I’m like “you feel hair, or HAIR HAIR” 🤣😂 let’s be real ladies you know what I’m talking about.
At this point my mom is present and excited for this is the first one of her grandkid’s birth she is about to see it all!
Labor and Delivery Room
And so at this point, they move me to the actual delivery room. I’m like 1 to 2cm dilated and the contracts are coming hard and stronger.
I’m signing documents and talking to the nurse 👩⚕️. They asked me if there is anything that I want. I asked for the aromatherapy (which I don’t think helped or wasn’t ever used), and I also asked for the pregnancy ball (never got it).
My contractions were coming in stronger and stronger as I was in the hospital bed.
Natural Birth or Epidural?
I wanted a natural birth but I wasn’t really getting anything that I wanted to cope with pain management. Which lead me to get an epidural.
I was scared (but not too bad) about the epidural shot because I heard nothing but bad things about it if it was done improperly. Me not having a care in the world due to the fact, my back was already messed up from years of being in the Army. I just wanted the pain to go away!
After I had the epidural, I was “BIG CHILLING.” One of my brothers that has kids came in and was trying to taunt me about pain and I told him “you too late, they done drug me up now” “this the best thing since sliced bread” 🍞 lol 😂.
Side Effects for Epidural
Of course, the side effects started kicking in. I was so COLD 🥶!! I asked for at least 7 blankets to wrap up in. My body was shaking uncontrollably from the chills. It had to be a scary scene for those in the room.
Once I was able to manage my chills, it was just a waiting game. Since I wasn’t progressing as fast as I should have.
Is It Time To Deliver Baby Yet?!
The doctors even came in and suggested that I use Pitocin to make things faster since I was in a time frame due to my water breaking that early morning.
I elected it. And things started picking up speed. At this point, there are like 5 family members present ready for the birth of my baby.
Things started getting harder as I was dilating faster. And once I got to 8cm dilated I WANTED TO PUSH SO FREAKING BAD!!
Let Me Push This Baby Out NOW!
THE URGE WAS SUPER STRONG and I had two different nurses coming in to check me ✌🏽. I got to the point I was calling in the nurses every minute to come and check to see how far I was.
Note at this point I’m a little bothered by the fact the first nurse wasn’t checking me and I even concluded that she had smaller fingers than the second nurse!
As the first nurse came back in to check me, she finally was like yup, let me go get the doctor and set up.
Time To Finally Deliver Baby
At this point, they turn the hospital bed into a transformer! Like this bed turned into a delivery machine!
If you think the prenatal checkups were uncomfortable, spreading your legs apart on the machine was even worse but of course, you don’t care because all you care about is delivering the baby.
Ahhhh Delivery time! 🚚 👶🏽
Once the doctor came in, they suit up like the Monster INC contamination team. And now I have my husband and the nurse holding my legs apart while the doctor is down the middle ready for the catch.
The Delivery Part of Birth
The nurse and doctor counted to ten. I was supposed to hold my breath and push during the contractions. If you have ever been pregnant before you know, the ability to breathe is already hard enough while pregnant 🤰.
I’m looking at these ladies like I’m not Micheal Phelps. But of course, I’m pushing the best way I can. Not know what I’m actually doing because this is my first time.
I pushed and the doctor told me to stop middle push because my daughter’s head had came out but the cord was wrapped around her neck. A devastating moment as a first-time mom. But I was equipped for this moment. I hold still and the doctor cut the cord from my daughter’s neck. And then they told me I could push and out my daughter came (it took about 10-15 pushes) (15 minutes estimated).
Hello World- I’m New Here
Out came my beautiful daughter with a head full of hair. I immediately thought “damn she wasn’t lying about she felt hair.”
I have never seen such a beautiful newborn baby. I was so used to babies looking like aliens 👽 when they first come out.
I promise you if I wasn’t up to see the delivery of my baby, I would have thought they gave me someone else baby.
She was so gorgeous and looked like a baby doll. God had just blessed me with the best thing ever! My little sunshine 🌞!
After Baby Delivery
She of course cried when she was born which is a great sign! They took my baby over to the scale while the doctor help me deliver the placenta and stitch me back up from the 3rd-degree tear I had from not knowing what I was doing plus pushing before I was 10cm dilated.
After they got my baby’s measurements and clean off the blood on her, they handed me her. And I cherish the very moment I got to lay eyes on my beautiful baby girl! Nothing else matters but her!
