The Ultimate Summer Bucket List Ideas- 111+ Things You Should Do This Summer

It’s time to spice up your summertime fun, there are over 111+ Things You Should do this summer with your family:

1) Visit a water park

Going to a water park can be super fun doing the summertime! Just make sure to check your local waterpark hours and don’t forget to pack sunscreen, towels, and a waterproof case or bag for your phone and items.

2) Go on a family bike ride

Family bike rides are amazing! Perfect and quality family time while also a great way to stay in shape! If you plan on doing this multiple times during the summer (or even year-round), I recommend you purchase your family their own bikes instead of renting them out at a local shop.

3) Play in the sprinkler or take turns running through the hose with friends and neighbors

Having a waterworks splash zone outdoors can be super fun for everyone and super easy to pull off, all you need is a running water faucet outside, sprinklers, and or water hose! The little ones would especially love playing in the sprinklers and taking turns running in the water.

4) Have an outdoor movie night under the stars and watch your favorite summer flick

Who hasn’t dreamt of watching a movie outside under the moonlight and stars? I absolutely dreamt of doing this! To pull this movie night off, you’re going to need either an outdoor movie screen or a big white sheet and a movie projector! Let’s not forget the lawn seats and chairs. Here are some great items you get from Amazon, to help you pull this off:

5) Create a DIY slip n slide that you can have fun sliding down together!

Something about a great DIY project that just gets the blood pumping! Creating a DIY Slip n Slide to use in the comfort of your background would be fun for all. You can even be more creative and line up the slip n slides to form a baseball diamond with small circle kiddie pools for the bases (Just like the family did in the video below):

6) Try out new recipes for dinner, like grilled chicken salad, burgers and fries, or pasta salad

It’s time to pull out old cooking books and the infamous Pinterest account to search for new recipes to try out. If you want to skip the labor part of finding a good recipe and actually going to the store to purchase the ingredients try these awesome companies out:

7) Go camping on a national park or state forest

Get out in nature and have fun! Research for your local national park or state forest. Don’t forget to take your tent, sleeping bags, and pillows with you!

8) Plan a surprise party for someone in your family who deserves it!

Is there a special someone in your life, that has a special occasion that happens during the summertime? Well, this is your moment to throw a surprise party for this person. Get creative and have fun! When in doubt, Pinterest can help!

9) Visit both of your grandparents before they head back home after vacationing together this year.

They’ll love getting to spend time with their grandchildren too! And if one is in another country, be sure to Skype so that everyone can see each other’s faces. It’s even more important when grandma lives far away from her grandkids because she doesn’t get as much time with them.

10) Bake cookies together with the kids!

Summer is a great time for baking because you can bake outdoors on your deck or in your backyard and not have to worry about turning on the oven inside while it’s warm outside. Cookies are always a good choice!

11) Hit up the beach and enjoy some sand between your toes

If you are a mom, then summertime means one thing: the beach! And nothing says "summer" like a quick trip to the shore and some time spent in the sand.

12) Get out of town for an overnight staycation

It's time for a break. Not just from the kids, but from the hectic life of running your household. Put them in their grandparents' care for an overnight staycation and go on a date night with your spouse! This is not only good for you as parents, it'll be great to spend some quality time together without anyone else around.

13) Eat ice cream from a vendor on the boardwalk

What do you get when you combine hot summer days, a boardwalk, and ice cream? A recipe for some serious fun! The cold temperature of the freezer, combined with air-conditioning and other factors, causes the moisture in your mouth to freeze before you even take a lick! This creates an instant cooling sensation that tricks your brain into thinking that the treat is colder than it really is. So next time you're feeling hot and need some relief, grab yourself a cone from one of these vendors - they'll make your day!

14) Spend time in the pool with friends and family

There's so much to do in the water, from swimming laps with friends or playing games like Marco Polo, to lounging on inflatable rafts and floating through an endless sea of bubbles.

15) Play miniature golf or go bowling.

These two activities are perfect for families to do in the summertime. They're not too expensive and they can be just as fun as going to an amusement park. Plus, it will give you some much-needed exercise so that when you go home from your day out in the sun, you won't feel guilty about sitting on the couch all evening while watching TV.

16) Go Strawberry picking as a Family

Whether you go on a family trip or only have time for one day of strawberry picking, there are many benefits to taking the kids. The best part about taking the little ones in tow is that they will love every second of it (maybe even more than you). It doesn't matter how old they are - from toddlers to teens - everyone loves strawberries.

17) Make your own banana split

Kids love banana splits, but sometimes they are a little too expensive to buy. Making your own is simple and fun! Get out some ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, bananas and cherries. Use a butter knife to make two lines of chocolate sauce on the side of the dish you will be using for this recipe (about 2-3 inches long).

Stick one cherry in each line at an angle. Put about 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream on top of these first two items. Place sliced bananas around the edges of your dish then place three more scoops in between them. Top with whipped topping and cherries as desired or use other toppings like chopped nuts or marshmallows instead! Let's get cooking!

18) Go on a picnic in the park with food you've made yourself

What's more fun than a picnic in the park with your kids? A picnic you made! Pack up some sandwiches, fruit and veggies, and snacks for an afternoon of adventure. When you get to the park, bring along a blanket or mat for sitting on as well as something to drink like water or juice. You can also pack up some games to play once everyone is done eating. Have fun exploring together!

19) Get outside for at least an hour every day.

Getting outside for at least an hour every day is great for your kids and you! It's a time to play, get some exercise, and enjoy the outdoors. Even if it's just sitting in the backyard or going for a walk through your neighborhood. Staying active and in nature will be beneficial for your health in the long run.

20) Start a new family tradition by going on vacation somewhere every year, like visiting different countries or national parks.

Start a new tradition in your house - go on vacation every single summer! It will be so much fun for everyone and give you something to look forward to all year long. So where should you go? Head out west or out east, across the pond, or head south down Mexico way! There are so many options for vacations nowadays and they are only becoming more accessible as time goes on…

21) Take family pictures around the house and have them printed for everyone's walls

It's a summer tradition to take family pictures on the front porch, but why not get creative with it and have them printed for everyone's walls? I've found some of my favorite memories in these photos taken around the house. You and your kids will love looking at their old bedrooms when they visit! Grab a polarized camera and take pictures with the whole family.

22) Visit amusement parks like Disney World or Universal Studios for some days of fun (especially if you live near one!).

Tired of the same old routine? Try visiting an amusement park for some days. You can explore new areas, ride rides you never have before, and spend time with your family. Some parks even have hotels right there so you don't need to worry about where to stay! And if you're lucky, it might be a little cooler in Florida or California than it is back home when summer hits.

If you have a baby and want to go to Disney but want guidance on how to pull off this trip, check out my blog post: The Best Products For A Successful Trip To Disney With A Baby.

23) Plant a garden together.

Why plant a garden with your kids this summer? They will love the independence of digging, planting and watering while you sit back and enjoy watching them grow. It's also an educational experience for them to learn about taking care of something other than themselves. Plus, it's a great way to spend quality time together!

24) Take a hike through nature.

What are you waiting for? Get out there and take your kids to go hiking! Not only is it a great way to get some fresh air, but it's also a fantastic way to bond with the little ones.

25) Watch fireworks from your backyard (with friends).

Do you know what's more satisfying than watching fireworks from your front porch? Watching them from the comfort of your own backyard with friends!

26) Plan a family game night.

It can be tough to keep up with the constant demands of our kids and their seemingly endless energy. Luckily, we have a family game night! It's a great way to spend time together as a family, get some exercise in for the kids (and us!), and give mom a chance to recharge her batteries.

27) Create your own scavenger hunt for families to do together.

Do you ever feel like your family's gotten a little too dependent on screens? Scavenger hunts are an excellent way to get kids off the couch and out into the world. As adults, we have our jobs (you know, the ones that don't involve sitting in front of a TV all day), so oftentimes it can be hard to come up with fun things for families to do together. That's where scavenger hunts come in!

28) Take a road trip to explore new places.

With the kids out of school and summer break in full swing, it's time to take a road trip. Explore new places and check some of those bucket list items off your list. What are you waiting for? Pack up the car! Go on an adventure!

29) Go camping in the backyard.

If you are a new parent or have young kids, going to the campsite this summer may not be an option. But don't fret! You can still experience nature from your backyard with a camping-themed family night in your own backyard.

30) Do something you've never done before, like go on a hot air balloon ride or take an art class

Why not try something new this summer? What about going on a hot air balloon ride? It's really an experience you'll never forget. You'll see the world from up in the sky. The best part is, it's safe and easy to do! Bring your family along for the adventure of a lifetime and have a blast exploring together!

31) Eat at your favorite restaurant.

Maybe you don't have the time to cook dinner after a long day at work, or your kids are still awake and hungry. Don't worry! There's one place that never disappoints-your favorite restaurant.

32) Go on a road trip to another state.

Do you know those days when you just want to get out of town and explore new places? Well, it's time to do that with the family. Pack up the car, call your friends and set off on a road trip! It doesn't matter where you're going - as long as you're exploring!

33) Go to the zoo, aquarium, or museum.

If you have young kids, one of the best ways to spend a day with them is at a zoo, aquarium or museum. The animals and fish are always so interesting for kids. They will never get bored at these places because they can explore and learn about new things every time they go! Even if your kids don't seem interested in looking at the exhibits, there's plenty more to do like feeding giraffes or touching sea creatures.

34) Have a PJs Day with the kiddos.

Having a pajama day with the kids is awesome. It's an excuse to stay in your PJs all day, eat ice cream and watch TV. But more importantly, it gets you out of those mom jeans for a while! So next time your little one wants to have a sleepover at their friend’s house or they've invited to another kid's birthday party that unforeseen things get in the way of them attending, host a Pajamas Day Party as a family instead!

35) Visit a new city for vacation and explore all it has to offer.

As moms, we are often looking for new and fun activities to do with our kids during vacation. What better way to explore a city than with your children? The best part is that they will be entertained the whole time so you can take in all the sights while on vacation!

36) Go fishing at a local pond or lake.

Fishing is a great way to spend time with your family and bond over something you all love. It's also a good way to teach kids about being patient, learning how to cast and reel in the line, as well as identifying different types of fish.
So grab your fishing poles and head out for an afternoon at your local pond or lake!

37) Go Jet Skiing or Parasailing.

Many people with kids say that they don't know how to spend time with their family. They're always running around and trying to keep up with the next soccer game, piano recital, or swim lesson. But what if you could find a way to do something new and different? Well here's your chance! Jet skiing is an incredible experience for all ages. Parasailing is also an option, but it doesn't offer quite as much adrenaline rush as the jet ski does! I would suggest only trying jet skiing if you have older kids at least 10 and up. Parasailing would be best if you have teenagers and or young adults.

38) Have a picnic on the grassy lawn of your favorite public library.

It's been a hot summer and the kids are restless. Why not pack up the car with some snacks, water bottles, and blankets to make your own picnic outside of your neighborhood library? The grassy lawns have lots of green space for running around or just sitting down and reading a book. Plus, it's always fun to take advantage of libraries' free WiFi! Pack up your family today for an afternoon adventure at the library!

39) Play some games in the backyard, such as Twister, Ladder Golf, or Jenga.

Kids are full of energy and need a place to release it. The backyard is the perfect spot for them to be able to do so while having fun with their family at the same time. Play some games in the backyard, such as Twister, Ladder Golf, or Jenga. These games will keep everyone entertained and create memories that will last a lifetime!

40) Make s'mores around the campfire and roast marshmallows for dessert!

The best way to make s'mores is around a campfire. I love the smell of the wood and the crackling sound it makes as you roast your marshmallow on top of it. Make sure not to burn down your campsite! You can also roast marshmallows in an oven or stove at home, but nothing beats roasting them over a real fire.

41) Play outside together as a family

Playing outside as a family includes running around the yard, playing catch, kickball, or tag games, building sandcastles at the beach or park...anything that gets you moving!

42) Start a new hobby with everyone, such as gardening or painting pottery

It's been said that the family that plays together, stays together. I'm not so sure about this statement, but in my experience, the family that does something new together stays more connected and has a better time than those who don't. It doesn't matter what it is; you can paint pottery or grow vegetables in your backyard- any hobby will do!

43) Go on a camping trip with all of your friends and family, or just go to campgrounds nearby and enjoy nature's beauty

No matter who you are, camping is a time-honored tradition. It doesn't matter if it's an all-out adventure with the family or just a weekend getaway with friends. Camping offers something for everyone. You can have as little or as much fun and spend your days doing anything from hiking to fishing to playing games around the campfire at night. Plus, there's no better way to reconnect with loved ones than by cooking over a fire together! So go ahead, grab some food, and make sure you pack plenty of bug spray because this summer might be your opportunity to finally try camping for yourself!

44) Host a backyard BBQ for friends and family members.

If you're looking for a fun and easy way to spend time with your family and friends, hosting an outdoor barbecue is the perfect solution. It's simple enough that it will be completed in a day or two, but has just enough work to make you feel like you accomplished something. Plus, there are countless recipes out there for delicious dishes that everyone can enjoy!

45) Play at the beach and collect shells for your home decor.

Sometimes it's hard to have fun with the kids at home. But if you're lucky enough to live close to a beach, then there are plenty of opportunities for family fun! Collect some shells and bring them back home as decoration or souvenirs from your trip. You can also make sandcastles and let the kids play in the water - they will be entertained for hours.

46) Make homemade popsicles out of fruit juice, yogurt, and fresh fruit (healthy alternative).

Making popsicles out of fruit juice, yogurt, and fresh fruit is a great way to keep your kids cool this summer! In just three simple steps you can make these yummy treats. First, pour the desired amount of liquid into popsicle molds or paper cups. Next, add in some yogurt and stir it up with a spoon until blended. Finally, top off each mold with chunks of fresh fruit like strawberries or pineapple. You're done! Freeze for at least eight hours before trying to remove from molds because they will be very solid after that time has passed. Your kids will love them (and so will their taste buds)!

47) Have a water balloon fight.

What better way to beat the heat than with a water balloon fight! It's summertime and it's always fun to be outside. What do you need for this activity? The only things you will need are water balloons, cups, and a hose or bucket of water. This is something that can be done at home without any costly supplies. All you really need is one person to fill up the balloons with the hose or bucket while someone else puts them in cups on the ground. Once they're all set up, have your kids go crazy throwing those balloons at each other! You'll see how much fun it is when your children run around trying to avoid getting wet by their friends (or more likely their parents)!

48) Go to a summer festival.

Summer is a time for festivals and fun. We all have our favorites, but we know that summer just wouldn't be complete without them. You can find any festival you want here in the US, from the dog days of July to Labor Day weekend. It's a great opportunity to get out there with your family and enjoy some quality time together! So what are you waiting for? Grab your kids and head out this weekend to your favorite festival!

49) Sleep under the stars.

Have you ever slept under the stars? It's such a sweet experience. There is nothing like feeling the cool, crisp night air on your skin while laying in a tent of blankets and pillows with your loved ones. The sound of crickets chirping all around you is so calming and relaxing. What an amazing way to spend time with your family!

50) Find a local farmers market and pick up some fresh produce.

Farmers' markets are a great place to spend an afternoon with your family. They offer fresh produce, live music, and plenty of other activities for kids! The next time you're looking to get out of the house, find your local farmers market and enjoy some quality time with the people you love most.

51) Plant vegetables in your backyard for summertime snacking.

We all know that vegetables are important for a healthy diet. But, in the summertime when it is hot outside and we want to be outdoors as much as possible, sometimes eating a bowl of steamed broccoli just doesn't sound very appealing. That's why having your own vegetable garden can be so helpful! It is so easy to grow your favorite veggies right in your backyard – you'll have an endless supply of fresh produce right at your fingertips! Plus, it's fun and really easy to do with kids too!

52) Start reading books aloud to each other at bedtime, before naps, or anytime you're all home together!

You and your kids are going to love this one! The benefits of reading books aloud are endless, but it's especially important when you have a baby or toddler. Reading together is a great way for mommy and daddy to bond with their little one as well as teach them new words. We want to make sure that our children develop the skills they need and learn how to read early on in life so we can enjoy reading with them for years to come!

53) Watch the sunset together

Have you ever watched the sunset? It's so beautiful and a sight that is a must be seen. When the kids are running around like crazy, and you're trying to get dinner on the table, it can be hard to find time for just you and your partner. But sunset is a perfect time for some quality one-on-one time. Sit down together with some snacks or a drink and enjoy the evening sky. You'll both feel refreshed when bedtime rolls around!

54) Try a new recipe for dinner

I know that there are many reasons to be excited about the summer season, but let's not forget that one of the best parts is eating all those delicious foods. One way to make sure you're getting the most out of your summer vacation is by trying a new recipe for dinner during this time.

55) Visit the local library and pick out some books to read together at home.

Want to spend some quality time with your kids? Visit the library and pick out a few books. Then grab a blanket, find a spot on the carpet and curl up next to them for an hour of reading. You'll be glad you did!

56) Participate in outdoor sports like tennis, soccer, or basketball together as a family.

I know that we all have busy lives and sometimes it can be hard to find time for each other. But there are so many ways to play outside together as a family! You can even play tennis, soccer, or basketball with your kids and they will love you for it. It's an amazing bonding experience that I recommend everyone try at least once this summer.

57) Make lemonade with lemons from your own tree!

How can you have a great summer without enjoying fresh lemonade during the long sunny days of summer? Grab some lemons from the trees, cups, sugar (sweetener), water and make some fresh lemonade.
