Surviving NICU – Mommy Edition

A mommy experience of Surviving
NICU | premature baby

Last week I was giving the honor to share this strong beautiful woman (named Mattie) story about her handsome baby boy being born earlier than expected (premature baby) and ending up in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). She has given me the honors of sharing her experiences in the hope that it will help encourage a mother(s) who may be experiencing the same thing. As we know that there are ups and downs during and after pregnancy, but together we can get through anything!

A Mother’s Story of NICU

Here’s Mattie Story from her own words:

“My son was born on 9-11-19 and he’s been in the NICU ever since with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I’ve spent weeks blaming myself wondering if I did something wrong while I was pregnant, and I would just cry at his bedside. Every day I’m smothered with, “is he home?”, “what’s wrong with him?”, “you should do this”, “y’all should do that” and it’s been SO draining. I don’t think people realize how overwhelming it has become because we want him home SO bad. Sunday, they finally transferred him to Egleston and he has made SO much progress there. I’m still struggling with the feeling of being robbed of his first month of life, but I know it’s for the better that he’s where he is. With prayers and faith, we’re now looking at him coming home by Friday, Universe willing.”

Words of Encouragement

After speaking with Mattie, she also wanted to share these words of encouragement and guidance:

“I would like to say to the Mothers going through this experience to HANG IN THERE and just know that the Universe doesn’t make mistake. Stay prayerful and remain humble. Everything will work itself out!”- Mattie

“This experience has taught me to put my “Mama Bear” hat on, get s#*! done, and cry later. This is the 2nd time in my life that I had to be strong because there was no other choice (I lost my Mother 4 years ago). I have now gained my second set of strength wings 🙏🏾❤️” – Mattie.

Super Mom Mattie

Though faced with a tragic event, Maggie has put on her Super Mom cape and fought the fight and so has her son! And I am happy to say her sweet baby boy has FINALLY MADE IT HOME WITH HER❤️!

It’s so important for women to have a community of people who know what they’re going through. Hopefully this story will reach others going through the same thing.

What a fantastic and encouraging post for anyone going through something similar. Although my kids are older now, eleven years ago when he was born I had complications with the North and was hospitalized for three weeks after the birth. It was awful and I know how to can cause some post partum issues. Articles like this are so important because it lets moms know that we are not alone!!!
