Who wouldn’t want to be able to spend more time with their kids and have the freedom to get up and go on vacations, to your lovely kids’ events such as games, recitals, practices, and more? If you’re like me, you decided to be a SAHM so you can watch your little one grow and flourish! During my recent pregnancy, I was working, and Ironically enough, I was going through being separated from my family and experiencing more trauma. I didn’t want to continue this lifestyle. I told myself I would rather be my own boss. This corporate lifestyle is not for me. I no longer wanted someone else dictating my life. No longer telling me how I need to dress, what time I had to wake up in the morning, what time I had to be on call for, and what time or the lack of I had with my family.

Though I told myself I want to be a SAHM, I still wanted to help my husband out with the bills. So I decided to flip my mommy entrepreneur switch on, and make the dream become my new reality!

What is a SAHM (Stay at Home Mom)?

A Stay at Home Mom comes in many forms.

A Stay at Home Mom can be an unemployed mother that is getting supported by her partner in the reasoning of close parenting by the mother while the partner works to manage the finances.

A Stay at Home Mom can be a mother that is employed, or self-employed, and works at home while caring for her kids. She can still be supported by a significant other or can very well be a single parent.

How to Get Started Making Money From Home?

Making money from home as a stay at home mom or just a mom, in general, is not difficult. With the right guidance and tips, you can start making money from home today.

Some mothers are crushing the online market! They have either started a blog and monetized it, selling items online, offering services (like life coach counseling), conducting easy tasks on websites like Fiverr and Upwork, and more!

The opportunity is endless! The only thing stopping you from making money from home is yourself.

But, trust me, Mommy, you can do it! I recommend you write down your motivation for making money from home and place it in your workspace. In this way, if you’re feeling unmotivated one day or you just need that extra push, you can look at your list or picture and remember why you are doing this.

5+ Ways to Make Money as a Stay At Home Mom

1) Start A Blog

Starting a blog is listed as number 1 for a reason! I’ve seen many moms crushing blogging and making it into a full-time job. Not only are they able to help pay bills, but some are even doing so well that they have gotten their husband to retire from their job! Talk about Superhuman!

2) Become a Virtual Assistant

Becoming a Virtual Assistant is number 2 because most successful mothers who are blogging also decided to throw in a little splash of virtual assistance in their journey! Remember, you always want to have multiple streams of income coming in!

Being a virtual assistant is not hard at all. Some even say it helps them with their development as a blogger! I also tried it out myself! I was completely accelerated at the fact, and I was working with a website platform I had never used before and was still able to get the job done!

Fear not, you can stay in your comfort zone with Virtual Assistant, just list services that you enjoy doing and that you are good in! Some examples of services you can offer are:

Data Entry
Blog Writing, Editing, and translating
Email Management
Website building
Copywriting
Creating Ebooks or E-courses (outline, designing, or writing)
etc.

Know you don’t have to be a blogger to be a VA (Virtual Assistant), you can be a Freelancer VA. You can offer your VA services on freelancing websites like Fiverr and Upwork.

3) Sell crafts online on Etsy and Shopify.

Guess what I have done this as well! I currently sell on Etsy! I make lovely crafts using my Cricut Maker, which I completely love, and sell them on Etsy! The Cricut Maker is a die-cut machine that you can make legit almost everything you can think of! Some crafts you can make with the lovely Cricut Maker and Cricut Explore Air are:

customizable greeting cards
engraved necklaces
faux leather earrings
T-shirts
Bows and headbands
Nail Art
Tumblers and Mugs
and more.

4) Sell Digital Products (ex: ebooks, online courses, printables, digital planners, etc.)

Selling digital products is a fantastic way to make money online from the comfort of home or really anywhere you have an internet connection! The great thing about selling your own digital products, is you get to price them at your own price! So, if you want to sell a course about blogging for $150, trust me, you can! Just ensure if you are selling a highly valued course or ebook that you provide a lot of great content and extra resources and templates to your buyers!

But, let’s digest the statement “Sell Digital Products.” What are some digital products you can sell? Well, you can sell the sun if you are good at convincing! Haha, I’m just kidding! Some good digital products to sell online are ebooks, printable planners, online courses, design templates, SVG files, and more!

Now you may be thinking, how can I even go about selling digital products, and should I do it on my blog?

My answer to that is Yes, you should sell via your blog for maximum control over your digital product! But, you can also use companies like SendOwl to send and sell your ebooks and Teachable or Thinkific to create your e-course! Now, I know off the top of my mind, that Teachable and SendOwl have an affiliate feature where you can actually set up an affiliate program for your digital product via their company.

Pretty cool, right?

You want to know something even cooler! If you decided to create printables! You can design them using Canva or PicMonkey! You can also share a link via Canva to your buyer to copy the template so they can use it right on Canva after purchasing it as well! Now, if you want more design control like Photoshop gives, you should use PicMonkey. But, if you are a beginner or novice designer, or just want a little more assistance, Canva is your best bet!

5) Offer services in something you’re an expert in.

If you are really good at something to the point you have taught others how to do it, or if you want to mentor others about it, how about you become an expert in your field? There are many blogging moms out there offering their professional help as a mentor, Virtual Assistant, and or coach! You can spot if a blogger is offering VA (virtual assistant) or coaching services when you see a “Work with me” tab on their blog!

The great thing about being a professional coach in your amazing field, you can get to price your own services! No dictatorship over your money! This is how you can leverage on making more than $10 an hour, $20/hr, even $50/hr! The sky is not the limit! And you don’t even need a college degree! Just experience!

If you are a beginner but want to one day be a coach, start as a virtual assistant and learn everything you possibly can in the field you want to coach in! Build your portfolio and work on your own blog, so you can also have a platform to show people your skills and work!

Stay motivated and focused. If you need to, plan out how you are going to make money from home.
Create SMART goals. SMART Goals are goals that a specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based.

- A good job is very subjective to what a person likes to do. But, in my opinion, a good stay at home job for moms would be data entry jobs and customer service jobs. Customer service jobs depend highly or your ability to find a quiet space in the house, where you can communicate on the phone without hearing a baby crying in the background or your toddler crying out to mom from the top of their little lungs. As well as a job that allows you to work at any time of the day at your own pace. It totally sounds like freelancing is the way to go if you want flexibility.

What is the best business for stay at home moms?

- The best businesses for stay at home moms are businesses that won’t require an extreme amount of time to conduct. Of course, at the beginning of every business, you will need to put in a lot of time and effort. But, after the beginning, you shouldn’t have to put in 10 hours every day on your business consistently. I would recommend selling digital products because this can be done on automation instead of having to take time out to create a homemade craft. Now, don’t knock handmade crafts; they are completely amazing! Plus, if you are good at making them, you can completely leverage your business on Etsy, especially if you can personalize the items!

How can I earn extra income from home?

- Making extra income from home is easy to do. My best advice is to freelance your skills. If you are good at clerical work, why not offer your administrative skills to an independent company or business owner. Fiverr and Upwork is a great place to start! You can always do surveys to make a little side money. There’s some website that would pay you for your old essays, and if you’re in school, they will pay you for your notes! If you are just trying to earn a few dollars, you can look into rebates from the stores you buy your items from. Check out these companies that will pay you money to shop: Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates) and Ibotta.
